Brive-la-Gaillarde stands in the alluvial plain of the Corrèze River and its fertile soil makes it an important centre for fruit and vegetables, which are sold in its reputed market along with other regional specialties.

It is known for its excellent regional cuisine and rugby fans will certainly have heard of it. The old centre originally developed around St Martin’s church and is now largely pedestrianized.  One of France’s most important book fairs, the ‘Foire du Livre’, is held here every November.

In summer, the Brive festival has become an unmissable event.
