Bergerac is a town whose history is inextricably linked with the Dordogne River and has a quay where the gabare boats tied up on their way from the Massif Central to Bordeaux. There is a delightful Renaissance city centre where you can wander among the charming streets and admire the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac, made famous for his great nose in the play by Edmond Rostand.
The town is of course also famous for its wine and you can learn about its 13 AOC appellations at the ‘Maison des Vins de Bergerac’.
The city of Bergerac has the label ‘Town of Art and History’. This label is given to towns which have a rich heritage and seek to share their treasures with visitors through cultural tourism, exhibitions, guided visits and other activities.
